Heroica Growth Strategy

The development and success of the plantation areas and trees planted is obviously central to the growth of Heroica. It has been both a huge boost to the Directors that their initial evaluation of the soil and growing conditions at both Kalinga and Piddig have proven to be so accurate and well founded.

The health of our trees and the faster than expected first bean production, highlight the huge potential for highly successful, sustainable, profitable coffee growing on our Heroica plantations. There are therefore 3 key “successes” and developments within the Heroica growth strategy:

1. Plantation Development

The phased application of our recent investment during late 2020/early 2021 is critical to Heroica’s development as an ethical business enterprise - both at Kalinga (and Piddig) and as our business model is replicated elsewhere.

It’s key to delivering a growth based on our founding principles & values, to:

Ensure: re-investment locally and continuing/sustaining development of the local coffee sector/industry

Strengthen: reforestation and watershed initiatives

Reduce: erosion and risk of land-slides

Commit: to innovation in new & aligned products and services, such as coffee flour and eco-tourism

Deliver: outstanding returns and values to our investors and partners

Produce: high grade Arabica coffee, associated inter-planted crops and eco-tourism income

Guarantee: fair market price

Increase: the economic benefits to farmers, landowners, all beneficiaries

Help: strengthen farmer capacity through training new jobs, on-/off- farm, long term income

Create: sustainability through our long term AFMA agreements and environmental commitments

After 6 solid years of experiences and challenges, successes and frustrations, Heroica is now in a great position to grow faster, stronger, better; to create more jobs and opportunities; to invest more in Best Practice processes and equipment.

The growth will enable us to proudly position Heroica as a respected member of the International Coffee Growers community and to profile the Heroica business, our coffee, our amazing journey and the values that underpin all of this - locally, nationally and internationally.

2. Nursery Development

The Heroica nursery at Kalinga has been a huge success producing up to 100,000-plus healthy seedlings per season. Now that investment funding is in place, Heroica can ensure that every seedling is capitalised upon – either at the Kalinga plantation areas, within our Social Awards or through supply and transplanting at our Piddig planation

3. Mill Development

On-site milling at Kalinga is very much within Heroica’s business development strategy. For our first harvest, the first phase mill development will comprise our Pulper and Fermentation Tank and the bespoke Heroica De-Huller. This enables us a start Mill Testing & Trialling on a larger scale.

4. Eco-toursim

Kalinga offers some of the best scenery you’re likely to see anywhere in the world. Mix that with the rich culture and tribal traditions and you have all you need for an adventure you’ll never forget. Our plan is to build eco-pods offering ‘glamping’ packages with tours of the region.
